Score 95/100 · Drink 2016-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2015
The 2013 Syrah Peters Vineyard is the more overt, fruit-driven of the two Anthill Syrahs. A rush of dark blue/purplish fruit, violets, mint and sweet spices rush across the palate, followed by savory, peppery and citrus notes that add freshness. A high amount of whole clusters and the addition of Viognier work beautifully to temper some of the wine's inherent richness, while aging in neutral oak allows the fruit to really shine. A huge, powerful finish rounds things out beautifully. The 2013 is pretty extroverted today and the flavors are quite primary, so cellaring is advisable. To be honest, though, readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off these wines.
