The 1998 Bacio Divino (a 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Sangiovese, and 11% Petit Verdot blend) is a full-bodied, textured, layered effort exhibiting an opaque purple color, and lush, delicious, plum, cherry, black currant, and sweet new oak notes. The wine is deep, chewy, intense, and elegant. It is on a fast evolutionary track. This is an undeniable success for the vintage. It should be drunk over the next 6-7 years. Tel. (707) 942-8101

Rather smart Sangiovese on the nose, muted by Cabernet Sauvignon (surprising since the respective percentages of these two varieties are 25 and 62, plus 11 per cent of Petite Syrah). This wine is certainly impressive and very well balanced but fiendishly expensive. Dry finish. (JR)
