Tasting notes
The 2019 Pinot Noir VGR has a medium ruby-purple color and powerful aromas of cranberries, blueberries and tangerine with accents of woodsmoke, tea leaves and dark spices. The medium-bodied palate is pure and defined with bright berries and citrus wrapped in a silky frame, and it finishes with fresh lift and pretty perfume.

A blend of Shea and Hyland vineyards and some Eola-Amity Hills fruit. 50% hand-destemmed at the pedicel and whole-berry fermented in 500-litre terracotta amphora, 50% crushed and fermented in macrobin. Gentle pumpovers, no punchdowns. Aged 18 months in 20% new French oak (Damy Rubis barrels). Juicy red fruit, Swedish fish candy, singing acidity, a light touch of oak and silky tannin, a smudge of dark soil. There is some obvious carbonic that leads to the lifted, candied red-fruit character. (SCJ)
