Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2032, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2019

Bright, dark ruby-red. Sexy, claret-like scents of blackcurrant, leather, tobacco and sweet oak are accented by floral and spicy qualities. Fine-grained and silky on entry, then balanced and lively in the mid-palate, with the floral element and sound acidity providing lift to the slightly medicinal dark fruit and tobacco flavors. As juicy as it is tannic on the back end, finishing with a fine dusting of tannins, a faint hint of leather and no rough edges. (An earlier bottle of this wine showed a bit more Old World funk and merited 91 points.) (14.5% alcohol)

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Mères isn't quite as overtly rich as the 2008, but has more delineation in its aromas and flavors. Tar, incense, tobacco, smoke and plums are all layered into the vibrant, nuanced finish. With time in the glass, the wine opens up beautifully as the flavors gain depth and richness. The 2009 is a fabulous wine for the money. (AG)

Lisa Drinkward and Francoise Peschon started this project as a way to have fun making wine with their respective young families. The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from vineyards in Calistoga and Oakville, and typically includes a dollop of Petit Verdot. Tel. (707) 963-6156

Good saturated ruby. Ripe, inviting aromas and flavors of plum, blackberry, chocolate and mocha. Sweet and lush but with an element of coolness giving the mid-palate a sense of restraint. A bit darker in fruit character than the 2008 version. More stuffing here, along with riper, sweeter tannins. This offers early appeal but has the balance and structure to age gracefully. These vines are now 20 years old, according to Francoise Peschon.
