Score 88/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2004

(mostly declassified juice from the Russian River Valley, including some fruit from the new Drake Road estate vineyard in Guerneville, planted in 1999) Deep red-ruby. Wild red berries, chocolate and pepper on the bright nose. At once fleshy and juicy, with nicely integrated acidity leavening the sweet berry flavors. Not complex but offers very good fruit and finishes with ripe tannins.

Williams Selyem

Williams Selyem is an iconic Russian River Valley winery best known for its Pinot Noir. Producing restrained yet classically Californian expressions of the heartbreak grape (as well as a host of other wines), the property has gone from pioneer to one of the region’s standard-bearers.
