The 2011 Evangelho Heritage Wine, from a site in Contra Costa County planted in the 1880s, is a model of elegance and restraint. Fresh red berries, flowers, crushed flowers, spices and mint all waft from the glass, but ultimately it is the wine's textural finesse and silkiness that stand out most. The understated style is quite feminine and at times even a bit fragile. Zinfandel, Carignane and Mourvedre form the backbone of this red field blend.

The understated style is quite feminine and at times even a bit fragile. Zinfandel, Carignane and Mourvedre form the backbone of this red field blend. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2021. Morgan Peterson continues to put out a bevy of superb, site-driven wines, many of them focused on the old-vine, heritage sites he and a small cadre of fellow producers have brought back from the brink of extinction.
