Tasting notes
The 2016 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is energetic and focused in style. Like the Pinot, the 2016 Chardonnay expresses the precision that is such a signature of this Santa Cruz Mountains site, with softer contours that make the wine easier to drink young. Citrus peel, savory herbs, crushed rocks, chalk and mint are all delineated in this very pretty, vivid Chardonnay.

Revealing a steely bouquet of citrus oil and wet stones, the 2016 Chardonnay Trout Gulch Vineyard is an attractive wine in its pure, even minimalist style, with a medium-bodied, tensile and acid-driven palate that's uncluttered by any makeup, concluding with a saline finish. As it warms in the glass, more texture emerges. It's a crisp, mouthwatering Chardonnay that will be interesting to follow for 6 or 7 years.
