Score 89+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
(includes the Coastlands and Hirsch fruit in 2000) Good saturated medium ruby. Tarry black cherry, dark berries and a peppery nuance on the nose. Thick and powerful yet rather graceful in spite of its sheer size. Solid core of licorice and spices. Clearly a pinot from thick skins; finishes with rather aggressive tannins that will require time in bottle.
