Tasting notes
The 2013 Novicium is dark, fleshy and inviting, much of that a result of the high percentage of Merlot in the blend. Mocha, black cherry, plum and spice meld into the opulent, voluptuous finish. Just bottled, the 2013 is likely to show better with a bit more time in bottle.

The 2013 Proprietary Red Wine Novicium, then the estate's young vines wine, is now fully mature. It shows good depth, but the aromatics are suggestive of a wine that needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and licorice linger. The blend is 46% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon—in other words, much more Merlot than is the norm today.
