Score 96/100 · Drink 2018-2033, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

From a vintage described as more open and charming than the 2013, the 400-case 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Corra is smoking good! Cassis, lead pencil, white chocolate, flowers, and spice all emerge from this gorgeously pure, elegant, incredibly seamless red that has full-bodied richness and power, yet is never heavy or over the top. It’s a true “Wow” wine that will shine for 15+ years. These Corra releases are made by Celia Welch and come from vineyards in Pritchard Hill and Rutherford. These are small production, yet seriously impressive wines.

Her 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 85% new French oak and bottled without fining or filtration. The good news is that there are 400 cases of this wine, which is elegant and Bordeaux-inspired, with notes of cedar wood, loamy soil underpinnings, black and red currants, licorice, and hints of tobacco leaf and new oak. This medium to full-bodied wine has the drinkability of most 2014s and should continue to offer up-front charm to consumers for another 12-15+ years.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, powerful wine voluptuous fruit and soft, shapely contours, all signatures of Celia Welch's style. Chocolate, dark fruit, smoke, licorice and sweet French oak infuse the rich, deeply satisfying finish. Showy and giving, the 2014 will drink nicely upon release.

Lavender, mint, blueberry jam and wild flowers race across the palate in the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted next to the 2013, the 2014 offers a bit more energy, less overt opulence and better overall balance between all of the components. There is a real sense of vibrancy to the 2014 that I find highly appealing. Basically, the 2013 and 2014 are stylistic polar opposites at Corra.
