100% Cabernet Sauvignon. CEO of Lawrence Wine Estates Carlton McCoy Jr MS, who was at the presentation, chose a powerful wine made by David Heitz. Very dry vintage with very small berries. He always ferments cool and the ferment was even cooler than usual in 2009 followed by 3.5 years ’ é levage. This was made before the winery had a thorough clean-out of Brettanomyces infection. McCoy thinks it gives character to the wine! Glowing dark crimson. Sweet start and then freshness with some savour. Drying finish. Doesn’t go right through on the finish. (JR)

Full bright ruby. Sexy if somewhat funky aromas of cassis, black cherry, leather, mint and eucalyptus, lifted by a note of black pepper. Deep and vinous, with its dark berry and mint flavors joined by slightly rustic pepper and leather notes. More savory than sweet; not squeaky-clean but has the energy to support slow evolution in bottle. Finishes with rather suave tannins that turn a bit dusty with air, perhaps due to the wine's savory herbal element.
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is a relatively immediate Marthas, with a real feeling of mid-palate density and weight that is almost out of character for this estate. Sweet, silky tannins give the 2009 much of its succulence. Scents of mint, pine and eucalyptus wrap around the juicy, inviting finish.
