Tasting notes
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne unwinds in the glass with as yet unformed aromas of smoke, petrol, wheat toast, white flowers and crisp orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's pure and precise, exhibiting considerable potential.

First vintage 2013. 88-year-old vines. Given by an aunt. ‘You mustn’t pick it too early, to get character.’ Picked 13 September – same day as Marguerite. Barrel sample. Rather wonderful and subtle. Very relaxed in its own skin. Cool and sleek. Holds its head up high! Relaxed. 14% but you don’t feel it. Sensation of green leaves. (JR)
