Tasting notes
(15% alcohol; from a cool vintage): Full bright gold. Fully evolved aromas of yellow fruits, honey, earth and porcini. Musky flavors of nuts and mocha, with little in the way of fruit remaining. There's a touch of decomposing vegetable matter here, as well as a drying finish. In decline.

Wente and Long Vineyards selections on heavy clay soils. Barrel fermented in burgundy pièces, up to 21 months in barrel. Full malo. 19 months on yeast lees. Unfiltered. Rich, gently honeyed, a touch of spice, orange and butterscotch yet still beautifully dry, long and intense. (JH)
The medium straw/green-hued 2000 Chardonnay Carneros (1,600 cases) exhibits aromas of white flowers and citrus in addition to medium body, excellent purity, abundant fruit, and admirable balance, with nicely integrated acidity and oak. Enjoy it over the next three years. Phone (707) 833-5620; Fax (707) 933-5620
(this was aged for 21 months in 65% new French oak) Deep, smoky, musky aromas of nectarine, peach and oak char. Powerful, dense and impressively deep; compared to the basic Carneros chardonnay, this is three-dimensional, with the volume turned up. Intriguing flavors of minerals, peach and peach skin perfectly supported by ripe acids. Finishes dense, thick, bright and powerful, with terrific persistence.
