Cut from the same mold as the Dead Letter Office, the rich 2004 Shiraz is slightly more linear, but exhibits notes of espresso roast, blackberries, creme de cassis, flowers, and toasty new oak. Deep, rich, and layered, it is best consumed over the next 5-7 years. Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (888) 472-5283

Deep ruby. Heady aromas of blackberry, olive and vanillin oak, with a strong element of clove. Sweet and deep, the dark berry flavors strongly marked by oak notes. But this wine has energy and lift, and the spicy oak accents rather than overwhelms the fruit, as it did in the 2003. Finishes juicy, sweet and persistent, showing a distinct creme de cassis quality and a note of cracked pepper.
