Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Bright saturated ruby. Aromas of cassis, bitter chocolate, graphite and shoe polish, plus a suggestion of leafy herbacity. Supple, pliant and dense, with dark berry flavors complicated by a subtle herbal nuance. Very Stags Leap in character. Sound acids and substantial dusty-but-fine tannins give this sweet but grown-up cabernet solid structure. Showing considerably better today than this winery Fay Vineyard bottling.

About the producer

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
Warren Winiarski founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970 when he purchased the Stag’s Leap Vineyard in Napa’s Stags Leap District. The 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon – only the second vintage – won the famous 1976 Judgement of Paris blind tasting, rocketing the estate to fame.
