Bruno Giacosa’s 1960s are some of my favorite wines from anywhere in the world. His 1969 Barbaresco remains a vivid testament to what Giacosa was able to accomplish in difficult vintages during his prime. Sensual, silky and inviting, the 1969 is once again simply wonderful. Although not at the level of Giacosa’s very best wines (that would have been impossible in this vintage), the 1969 Barbaresco is lovely.

Bruno Giacosa's 1969 Barbaresco has long been one of my favorite of his under the radar wines. The 1969 isn't a blockbuster, but it always impresses for its overall balance, as it does again on this night. It is a wonderful wine that sets the stage for what follows.
The 1969 Barbaresco is soft, round and perhaps even a touch simple, but it, too, is quite pretty and alive.
About the producer
Bruno Giacosa – now run by daughter Bruna – is a cult Nebbiolo producer, that has consistently made some of the best single-vineyard Barbaresco and Barolo from the 1960s onwards. The“red-label” Riservas are some of the finest and most collectable wines in Italy.
