Tasting notes
The 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is smoky, with copious quantities of exotic tropical fruits jumping from the glass. Pineapple, mango, and passion fruits immediately come to mind when tasting this full-bodied, lusty, in-your-face Chardonnay that should drink well for 4-5 years. (release date 3/01) Tel. Musky aromas of apricot and green apple, plus a cyanic hint of apple pit. Intensely flavored but tightly wound, with flavors of apple, minerals, and spice brightened by firm acids. Pour this somewhat unforthcoming wine into a decanter if you plan to serve it now. Finishes long, ripe and firm.
About the producer

Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
