La Morra. Concentrated ruby with orange rim. Lots of new oak on the nose but doesn’t suppress the fruit. Good match, actually. Powerful fruit well-balanced by tannins and lifting acidity. Well made and with a muscular structure. (WS)

The 2004 Barolo Monfalletto is yet another of the gorgeous entry-level Barolos in this vintage. The wine offers up plenty of dark red fruits, smoke, licorice and spices with excellent density and depth on the palate. Although the intensity trails off a bit on the finish, this is a fairly large-scaled version of this wine. It is a terrific effort.

Although the intensity trails off a bit on the finish, this is a fairly large-scaled version of this wine. It is a terrific effort. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022. This is a set of surprisingly rich, concentrated wines from Cordero di Montezemolo, one of Piedmont’s historic properties. Importer: Omniwines Distributing Co. Llc., Linden Hill, NY; tel. Good deep red. Dark cherry, menthol, violet and minerals on the complex nose. Suave and juicy, with lovely depth of flavor and bright framing acidity. Very young Barolo with flavors of dark berries and mocha and a menthol impression of austerity. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and brisk acids. Alberto Cordero notes that the estate harvested into early November in 2004.
