Sappy and focused in the mouth, offering raspberry, bitter cherry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors that gain weight and become sweeter with air. The pale to medium ruby colored 2017 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard, aged 17 months in 32% new French oak, needs a little coaxing to reveal scents of dried orange peel, red and black cherries, blackberries and rhubarb with spicy and earthy touches. Light to medium-bodied, it has a pretty arc in the mouth from earthy red and black fruits to amaro character, grainy and fresh with a long, layered finish.
The 2017 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard comes from a site in the Arroyo Grande Valley and was aged in the standard 35% new French oak barrels. It's more closed aromatically than the Stone Corral Vineyard yet has plenty of intensity in its black raspberry, spice, forest floor, and candied floral aromas and flavors. With a rounded, seamless texture, integrated acidity, and sweet tannins, it's a plush, elegant, charming effort to drink any time over the coming decade.
