Score 87/100 · Drink 1998-1999, Robert Parker, Oct 1998
The 1997 Rivola is one of the finest values in the wine market. Made from 60% Tempranillo and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is a pretty, round, richly fruity offering with plenty of charm, as well as sexy, smoky oak in the background. The wine spent only 3 months in oak casks, resulting in a fruit rather than wood-driven personality. Medium ruby-colored, with forthcoming aromatics, and seductive fruit flavors (cherries and currants), it should be consumed over the next year. Congratulations are in order for this impressive new winery that is already turning out wines of exceptional quality. Importer: Jorge Ordonez, Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA; tel. (781) 461-5767
