The 2021 Coeur a Coeur is a 50-50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon matured in about 25% new French oak. It gains intensity and expression as it opens in the glass and strikes a fine balance of tropical, herbal and savory character, with peach, guava and dried tarragon aromas accented by tones of beeswax, candle smoke and matchstick. The full-bodied palate is luxuriously satiny, offering a deep core of layered flavors foiled by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a very long finish driven by the alluring weightiness of Sémillon. Reminiscent of Bordeaux Blanc, it will gain savory complexity in bottle over the next 10–15 years. 172 cases were made.

The 2021 Coeur à Coeur is a promising wine, but it also needs time in bottle. The aromatics are gorgeous, especially with a bit of air; orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and a range of earthy/savory notes emerge over time. The pedigree of the 2021 vintage is evident, but this really needs time in bottle to be at its most enjoyable. Alternatively, a long decant will do the trick. Harvest took place from August 31 to September 9 for the Sauvignon Blanc and September 25 to October 5 for the Sémillon.
