Tasting notes
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva pulls you close to the glass with an alluring and darkly seductive display of crushed black cherries, balsamic and cedar spice, tobacco, menthol and a hint of undergrowth. It rushes the palate with silky textures, ushering in sweet red berry fruit with complementing notes of black licorice, as inner earth and mineral tones saturate and resonate throughout the long and dramatic finish. There is not a single thing out of place here, as the slightest hint of fine tannin tugs at the senses, while resonating on an everlasting note of sweet tobacco leaf. This is gorgeous with many years of life ahead of it. Tasted from my own collection held in professional storage.

Gianni Brunelli's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a promising wine. A medium red, it opens with attractive spiced, floral aromas. Although it offers excellent depth as well as length, it seems to narrow on the mid-palate, and ultimately conveys a rough around the edges, rustic personality.
