Tasting notes
The 2013 Proprietary Blend Estate, which is an 80% Cabernet Sauvignon-20% Cabernet Franc blend, exhibits a deep purple color and a sweet kiss of licorice, red, blue and black fruits galore, subtle background oak and lead pencil notes as well as earth. This is a rich, concentrated, broad, flavorful wine that handsomely complements the full-throttle Cabernet cuvée. Similar to its sibling, it has 20-30 years of upside to it.

A dark, implosive wine, the Cabernet Franc-based 2013 Proprietary Blend is going to need at least a few years to fully open up. Today it is powerful, incisive and structured, with considerable depth and concentration, but less of the early appeal of the estate's other wines.
The 2013 Proprietary Blend is a step up from the 2012. Mocha, plums, lavender, orange peel and smoke are some of the notes that add complexity to a core of vibrant blue/purplish fruit. The 2013 is vibrant and powerful, very much in the style of the year, but also impeccably polished. This is another fabulous showing from Brand.
