Score 98/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2014

The 1993 Bonnes Mares is initially quite firm, but then after an hour or so it transforms into an electric Burgundy of simply extraordinary finesse and complexity. The aromatics are more floral, lifted and savory than in the 1990. Everything is simply in the right place. The 1990 will continue to drink well for many years, although I am not sure it will necessarily improve. The 1993, on the other hand, appears to still be acquiring complexity. What a magical bottle of wine it is!

The Bonnes Mares is medium to deep ruby-colored, with an earthy, herb, black-cherry, and smoky, game-like nose, medium body, moderate tannin, and a muted but rich, firm, structured finish. The wine requires 2-3 years of cellaring and should keep for 10-12. While Domaine Dujac's 1993s possess some of the characteristic Jacques Seysses precociousness, they also contain plenty of structure and tannin. To my surprise, Seysses feels that the 1993 vintage is "one of his greatest, even better than 1990," which he now dismisses as "over-ripe" and "atypical."
