Tasting notes
The supremely elegant 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a sultry beauty, blending balsamic herbs with a hint of exotic spices, dried flowers and grounding notes of dusty earth and underbrush. It’s deeply textural and weighty upon entry, with tantalizing acidity to balance its luxurious texture as lavender-laced red and black fruits swirl across the palate. There’s a gorgeous inner sweetness here as the 2006 conveys undeniable elegance, with resolved tannins framing the experience and nuances of licorice fading slowly.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows plums offset by spicy citrus, as dusty dried florals and hints of animal musk come forward. This floods the palate with silky richness and ripe red and black fruits. There’s a pliant feel here, even as this remains youthfully structured and poised. Saturating spices and tannin mount toward the long finale, which is a bit balsamic and rich through the close, with a hint of spice cookie and minerals lingering on. While still adolescent in character, the 2006 seems to be on the verge of its peak, and it should continue to drink exceptionally well for another 10–15 years.
One of the truly exciting wines of the year, the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva boasts superb richness, power and depth from start to finish. Cloves, violets, incense, plums, black cherries and menthol all explode from the glass in a virile, towering Brunello endowed with massive structure. Fresh, vibrant and beautifully delineated, this drop-dead gorgeous Riserva has more than enough stuffing to drink well for two decades. The estate gave the 2006 Riserva 42 months in oak, all of which is had handled beautifully.

The wines are consistently outstanding, have plenty of personality and also age beautifully. Importer: Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel. (631) 467-5907
