Tasting notes
Situated just 500 meters from plot 469, this single vineyard (only 45 acres) benefits from having its vines planted in very shallow limestone soils complemented by a highly ventilated climate. So, the 2022 Sancerre Monoparcelle 538 reveals a pure, deep bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, an elegant reduction of oak, spices and citrus mingled with iodine-inflected, menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it’s round and charming with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids, chalky dry extracts and a long, saline, ethereal finish. This is a superb rendition of this soil. Matured 18 months in foudres or wooden tanks.

The 2022 Monoparcelle 538 is a ball of concentrated, tender fruit. It sits comfortably in the mouth without being showy, allowing you a moment to reflect and relax. Aromatically, it's relatively quiet, but I think that's its personality. It offers very subtle elderflower, nectarine, ripe lemon and green herbs. Compared with the 469, it's quieter due to being a cooler, less exposed site. The finish is fine and calming.
