Amazingly spicy, also mellow and round. Very, very slightly astringent finish but interesting texture up to that point. (JR)

Good bright, deep red-ruby. Dark berries, black cherry, bitter chocolate and a hint of smoked meat on the brooding, rather syrah-like nose. A rather powerful, unevolved style, tightly wound and penetrating. But there's excellent underlying sweetness here, as well as unmistakable pinot sap and spice. The nose grew more floral with aeration, and some sexy smoke and earth tones emerged on the lingering finish. This needs a couple of years for its acid and tannin spine to soften.
