Bright purple. Pungent, spice- and smoke-accented aromas of dark berries and cherry-cola. Offers intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that are lifted and sharpened by juicy acidity. Closes with youthful tannic grip, a touch of cured meat and impressive spicy cut.

The 2010 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvee Speciale La Guiraude requires 2-3 years of cellaring as it is a big, back-strapping Crozes boasting a dense purple color as well as plenty of cassis, crushed rock, earth and spice box scents. Structured and medium to full-bodied, it should hit its peak in 4-5 years and last for a decade thereafter. Importer: Europvin, www.europvin.com
