The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru will be matured in 40% new oak and includes 40% whole cluster fruit. It has a strict and quite linear bouquet, timid at first but then it unveils subtle cold stone/limestone scents intertwined with blackberry, raspberry and allspice aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, plenty of dark cherry and raspberry fruit-tinged with dark chocolate (from the new oak) with a grainy, slightly austere finish. It just needs to develop a little more flesh once in bottle; however, Pascal has overseen here a sensual Echézeaux that should age in consummate style.

Five barrels. Racked (like Suchots). Dark crimson. Intense nose with good freshness. Fruit weight only moderate but great balance. Firm framework. Some refinement. Savoury. Racy. Lots of refined tannin. (JR)
