Tasting notes
It's such a shame Petite Sirah The Other is so overlooked, as Outpost's 2012 is simply magnificent. Plums, white flowers, mint, game and orange peel are all beautifully expressive in a wine that captures the very best of the year and this Howell Mountain site. It is that far of a stretch to imagine that the Petite might turn out to be the best of Outpost's 2012s. It is every bit that superb.

The Outpost’s 2012 Petite Sirah The Other is 100% Petite Sirah aged 18 months in 50% new and 50% used French oak. A massive monster that will still be alive 30-40 years from now, this 200-case cuvée is rich with blueberry, blackberry and raspberry fruit notes intermixed with hints of wet minerals and flowers. With stunning purity and focus, masochists may enjoy it now, but it will be strutting its stuff in 15 or more years.
The 2012 Petite Sirah The Other boasts stunning aromatic nuance and complexity, but in a silkier, more caressing style than the 2011. There is plenty of exoticism in the glass. Black cherry, plum, white pepper, cassis and intense mineral notes inform a full-bodied Petite that will drink beautifully for years.
