Score 92/100 · James Suckling, Mar 2015

This shows more freshness than the 2010, with blackberry, toasted-oak and chocolate character. Full body, chewy and polished texture. Needs a few years to come together but well structured.

Alpha Omega’s flagship 2011 ERA (a selection of their finest barrels) is full and rich with slightly more tannin and structure than its siblings. This impressively endowed wine is similar to several of the single vineyard offerings. Like the Stagecoach Vineyard effort, it is made in a more backward, brooding style, especially for a 2011. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 12-15 years. Alpha Omega, which has been in existence for nearly a decade, is located in a handsome building on Highway 29. The wines are made by John Hoefliter teamed with the famous globe-trotting Bordeaux oenologist, Michel Rolland. I have noticed incremental improvement in these cuvees, and the 2011s generally performed well. Tel. (707) 963-9999
