Tasting notes
Bright ruby-red. Very deep, vibrant aromas of cassis, minerals, tobacco, fresh herbs, licorice and tar; complex and, yes, claret-like. Dense and thick but suave and quite dry; very French in style. Tasted next to the splendid 2002 Reserve Claret made by Foley under the Pride Mountain Vineyards labe l, this is even bigger and more structured-but then it's 100% cabernet sauvignon, while the Pride wine is two-thirds merlot.

A classic example of a Bordeaux blend, the 2002 Claret possesses an inky/blue/purple color as well as a fabulous perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and licorice. It hits the palate with a full-bodied, unctuous texture, tremendous purity, and moderately high tannin in the 40+ second finish. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018. Tel. (707) 965-2669
