Score 96/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2023

Revealing a medium golden yellow, the 2021 Chardonnay The Coast is layered with amaretto, croissant, peach, and wet stone notes. It is full-bodied and sweetly fruited on the palate, with good tension and fresh acidity, as well as a silky, elegant texture, good length, and a clean finish. This lovely, beautifully styled wine certainly leans towards decadence and will take some time to show its full potential. Drink 2025-2035. Founded in 2007, the Boars' View estate was planted by Ulises Valdez with the help of Thomas Rivers Brown, in the same geological bowl as Marcassin. The nine acres of the property planted to vines are mostly Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Chardonnay. The wine style is a significant departure from the supple and elegant wines of Rivers Marie in that they are modeled after the aesthetic of Schrader’s style of Cabernet. These are brawny wines with a more obvious stamp of oak influence and opulence and are reflective of their more mountainous, coastal terrain.
