Tasting notes
The 2014 Chardonnay (Santa Cruz Mountains) is a highly individual wine. Powerful and phenolic, with plenty of mountain intensity, the 2014 offers notable power. Reductive overtones in the bouquet adds energy and tension, which results in a striking interplay of all the elements. Ash, graphite and a host of savory/mineral overtones are the signatures. The reductive element is pushed to the edge. There is certainly no shortage of intrigue.

An addition to the range, the 2014 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains offers notable depth and nuance. The classically Burgundian-inflected notes, chiseled fruit and citrus-driven notes are all typical of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Candied lemon, pear, white flowers, slate and crushed rocks add the final shades of nuance. I tasted the 2014 from tank, just prior to bottling. The Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay emerges from two vineyard sites.
