Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2015

The 2004 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard is in a great place today. Smoke, cedar, tobacco, incense and deeply spice notes add considerable intrigue. There is a real feeling of density in the glass, yet the acidity remains prominent and has clearly helped the 2004 age gracefully. Ted Lemon describes 2004 as similar to 2003 in that it was a warm, early vintage, but based on the experience of 2003, in 2004 he chose to pick a bit earlier. This site, planted in 1997, yielded just one ton of fruit per acre. This is a terrific showing from the 2004 Cerise.

Good red-ruby color. Knockout nose combines sappy cherry, raspberry, forest floor nuances, smoke and meat. Lush, round and ripe in the mouth, but nicely dry and young. Finishes with very suave tannins and sneaky length. I like the balance here of fruit, tannins and acids.
