Tasting notes
Bright, dark red. Very ripe aromas of cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate lifted by violet and pepper topnotes. Very concentrated wine with surprising inner-mouth floral lift that reminded me of a Vosne-Romanée. Much more powerful than the silkier Ruchots, but with its sweetness and thickness leavened by harmonious acidity. Finishes classically dry, savory and long, with tooth-dusting tannins and firm structure and lift. This wine may yet go into a shell but it's not especially closed today.

Bright dark red. Serious, complex scents of black cherry, boysenberry, menthol, white pepper and spices, plus a whiff of animal fur. Juicy, sappy and penetrating but not hard. This wonderfully perfumed but youthfully imploded wine boasts a superb slowly mounting finish featuring raspberry, pepper and minerals. Shows the firm structure of Nuits-Saint-Georges but also the precision and mineral lift I associate with hillside Chambolle-Musigny.
