Tasting notes
A powerful, dense wine, the 2015 Contrarian packs a real punch in its bold, explosive fruit. Ripe red cherry, cedar, licorice, and dried flowers add aromatic nuance throughout. Like all of these wines, the Contrarian offers a good bit of freshness to play off the natural intensity of the year. Winemaker Aaron Pott racked the wine just once and opted for longer aging on the lees to keep as much freshness as possible. It certainly looks like those choices paid off. This is another attractive wine from Blackbird.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Contrarian Proprietary Red has a cassis, warm blackberries and kirsch-scented nose with hints of cedar chest, forest floor, Mediterranean herbs and tar. The medium to full-bodied mouth is firm with a good fruit core, finishing long with an herbal lift.
The 2015 Contrarian is another wine that combines intense fruit with terrific energy and tension. The balance of fruit acidity and tannin is the most complete of these wines today.
