Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots from Domaine Gagey did not live up to its showing from barrel. This bottle had a slightly funky nose that feels disjointed compared to others, a faint scent of nail varnish behind the kirsch and cassis fruit. The palate is ripe and sweet. This feels over-extracted and lacks detail on the finish. This was a vexing showing of a normally good wine, hence the question mark against my score. Tasted November 2016.

Tasted blind. Bright garnet. Gamey, sweet and concentrated on the nose. Rather drying on the end. Ambitious but not charming. Very cool. (JR)
Healthy medium red. Slighly high-toned aromas of dark raspberry, cola, licorice, menthol and spicy oak. Plush on entry, then spicy and energetic in the middle, with dark cherry and raspberry fruit flavors showing complicating green notes of pepper and herbs. Finishes with sweet oak tones and lovely power and cut. Plenty of depth here but give it several years in the cellar to harmonize.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
