At an elevation of 800 ft (245 m) on the south west of Sonoma Mountain – this will be the new Petaluma Gap AVA very soon. There will be 12 or more producers in the AVA plus those who buy fruit. First vintage was 2005. Rich and lively and pure pleasure and pure Syrah. Really exciting! (JR)

Rose petal, plum, black pepper and blood orange are some of the signatures in the 2013 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard. Bold and powerful in the glass, with plenty of cool-climate savoriness, the 2013 packs a real punch. Closing bursts of acidity and tannin suggest the 2013 will benefit from at least some cellaring. The 2013 was done with about 25% whole clusters. A generous dollop (10%) of Viognier adds further aromatic brightness.

Co-fermented with 10% Viognier, the 2013 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard has a medium garnet color and notes of jasmine and lavender over a black pepper and tar cor, with fruit notes of blackberries and black raspberries. The medium-bodied palate is earthy/savory in character, with a solid frame of chewy tannins and plenty of spice layers on the finish.

Ramey's 2013 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Here the flavors and textures are finely sketched, with gorgeous vibrancy, tension and energy. Graphite, pencil shavings, smoke, blackberry jam and lavender notes add complexity on the chiseled finish.
