Score 92/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

The 2011 Il Cabernet is a softly textured and luscious wine with dark layers of fruit intensity, spice and chocolate. This wine really constitutes its own category of red wine among the super Tuscan category thanks to the originality of its aromas and the thickness of its texture. The bouquet is presented in large brush strokes with a bold and generous personality backed by firm tannins and lush density. Il Caberlot should evolve nicely over the next ten years.

Bottled in September 2013 and will be released at the end of 2014. Complex and alluring nose of creamy cherry with hints of cardamom skin. Smoky, fleshy red fruit with a salty finish. Long and multi-layered and fresh with gripping tannins and with a near perfect balanced. Still very young, but already hugely seductive. (WS)

Dark red cherry, plum, spice and smoke notes open up in the 2011 Il Caberlot. A wine of depth, texture and resonance, the 2011 impresses for its balance and freshness. Savory herbs, tobacco, mocha and mint, develop in the glass, adding complexity and nuance. There is so much to like here, starting with an array of incredibly vivid tapestry of flavors and textures. This is a tremendous showing from Il Carnasciale. Available only in magnums.

The 2011 Il Caberlot is darker, richer and more deeply spiced than the Carnasciale, but I am not sure it is necessarily a better balanced wine, at least today. Black cherry, black berry, cloves, menthol, tar and licorice all flesh out on the powerful, inviting finish. It is going to be interesting to follow both 2011s over the coming year (and beyond) to see what paths they take.
