The 2016 Pinot Noir Bodega Vineyard gets better and better as it unfolds in the glass, segueing from burnt citrus peel and tar to a core of red and black cherries and accents of tobacco, dried mushrooms and amaro. The medium-bodied palate features fresh acidity and a pleasantly chalky frame, with iron-laced fruits defining the long finish.

Amazing aromas of pine needle and redwood with ripe strawberry and dried fruit. Full-bodied and chewy tannins with polished tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Polished and gorgeous texture now. Hints of iodine in the aftertaste. Drink now.
The 2016 Pinot Noir Bodega is the deepest and richest of the three Raen 2016 Pinots, but like all of these wines, it has plenty of aromatic presence. Sweet herb, anise, mint, red cherry and red plum fill out effortlessly. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2016 has quite a bit to offer. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years.
Raen's coolest vineyard at 750 feet (under the fog line presumably) on Goldridge sandy Loam and iron-rich Franciscan sandstone facing south – south west. Clones 667, Calera and Pommard. Just 150 cases made. Pale crimson. Quite rich and broad on the nose with a vegetal note. Sweet start (is this down to clones rather than climate?). Appetising with some simple red fruits appeal. Quite long and rich. (JR)
