Tasting notes
Dark crimson. Intense, ambitious nose. Very racy and exciting and layered. Really complex and just about broachable now though clearly it will improve. Great stuff! Super spicy yet with some grace and sinewy build too. (JR)

The 2006 Domaine le Sang des Cailloux Vacqueyras Cuvée Lopy has a perfumed, spicy bouquet with garrigue, saddle leather, spice and sweet Grenache driven fruit aromas that bound from the glass. I could smell the wine without even pouring it. There’s a touch of brett here so be warned. In the mouth, this is fresh and lively with sweet, juicy fruit, remarkable balance and a long, rich, tannic finish. Drink this beauty over the next 8 to 10 years.
The brilliant, seductive, sexy 2006 Vacqueyras Cuvee de Lopy offers enticing aromas of Provencal herbs, lavender, figs, plums, and black cherries. This dark garnet-colored, evolved, fruity, medium to full-bodied, lush Vacqueyras possesses sweet tannins as well as a heady finish. A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, from the estate’s oldest vines, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 6-8 years. Serge Ferigoule’s Domaine Sang des Cailloux is, by most credible accounts, the leading estate of Vacqueyras. These consistently high level wines rank alongside those of Domaine de Couroulu. (made from old vines) Deep ruby. Meaty red cherry and cassis aromas are complemented by beef blood, black pepper and dried flowers. Youthfully firm red and dark berry flavors are framed by dusty tannins, and finish with a strong cherry skin quality. This also seems very syrah but it's 74% grenache.
