A dark, sumptuous beauty, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sigaro has developed nicely over the last year. Savory, floral and mineral notes add nuance to the intense, racy fruit in this voluptuous Cabernet Sauvignon. A creamy, textured finish laced with hints of iron, sage and anise rounds things out beautifully. The 2012 isn't quite as explosive as it was last year most likely the result of its bottling a few months before this tasting.

From the Fairchild Estate Vineyard, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sigaro is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Clone 7. This seamless, open-knit, sensual, full-bodied, ripe Cabernet Sauvignon doesn’t have the complexity of the other cuvées, but offers oodles of fruit and a touch of new oak in a savory, fleshy mouthfeel. Drink it over the next decade or more.
Dark ruby. Very ripe, youthfully medicinal aromas of dark plum, bitter chocolate and menthol. Fat, rich and sweet but a bit monolithic. Stuffed with fruit but verging on syrupy. The salty finish features nutty oak (92% new) and modest energy. Alcohol here is in the high 15s, according to winemaker Philippe Melka.
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sigaro is much deeper and more resonant than the 2011. A huge, explosive Cabernet, the 2012 is loaded with class, personality and tons of sheer extract. There is a lot to look forward to here, but readers will have to be patient, as the wine is very compact at this stage. An exotic mélange of dark red fruit, spices and minerals flesh out on the huge, structured finish.
