Once again, the Outpost Grenache is one of the most unique and compelling wines in Napa Valley. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Proprietors Frank and Kathy Dotzler, along with their winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, don’t miss a beat. There is no shortage of compelling wines among these new and upcoming releases. Readers who want to taste some of the greatest expressions of the 2011 vintage should head straight to Outpost. The 2011s, from a late, cold harvest that stretched into November, are compelling. The 2010 Grenache is less expressive than the 2009, at least at this stage. Tobacco, smoke, new leather and dark red fruits are woven together nicely in this medium-bodied Grenache. The long finish shows attractive hints of saline vibrancy, but the 2010 still needs time to come together. The 2010 was vinified with 100% stems.
