Tasting notes
A mix of fresh Italian herbs, crushed rocks, forest notes of juniper and pine, and black fruits. Dark and brooding while still full of fresh acidity. Firm, persistent tannins. Allow a few years in bottle for everything here to integrate and the wine will have a lot to deliver. Serious, brooding and yet still elegant. Nicely done. (ECB)

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard, from one of the most pedigreed sites in northern California, is a total knockout. A classically built, old-school leaning wine, the Montecillo possesses dazzling aromatic presence, beams of mountain tannin and exceptional overall balance. Inky blue/purplish fruit, licorice, menthol, lavender, iron, smoke, graphite and a host of mineral-inflected notes build into the huge finish.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard offers a gorgeous nose of crème de cassis, dark chocolate and cloves over hints of menthol, pencil shavings and game. Medium-bodied and packed with firmly textured, muscular fruit, it has a lot of energy and depth with a long, minerally finish.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard, from one of the best sites in Sonoma Valley, is captivating. A host of savory and ferrous notes open up first in a wine that speaks to the pedgiree of this renowned hillside site. Dark blue and black stone fruit, game, lavender, sage and tobacco add the closing shades of nuances. It will be fascinating to see what Andy Smith does with Sonoma Cabernet.
