Score 90/100 · Drink 2002-2018, Robert Parker, Jan 2000
Patience will be required with the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Select, which was closed, but powerful. The saturated ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of minerals, toasty oak, and jammy black currants. A tannic, muscular, full-bodied wine, it has outstanding extract and purity. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2018. Tel. (707) 965-3020; Fax (707) 965-0324

Deep, bright ruby-red. Aromas of dark berry liqueur and fine Corinthian leather; distinctly bretty. Very rich, sweet and leathery, with a slight dryness in the mouth. Finishes quite long, with chewy, unrefined tannins. Big, wild cabernet with no shortage of personality.
