Score 94/100 · Drink 2020-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Oct 2024

From a vintage marked by a warm second half of the growing season, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee boasts a hint of tobacco on the nose, plus black cherries and some gentle earthy-savory notes. In the mouth, it's full-bodied, slightly open-knit, then clean and zesty on the finish. Sourced from Beckstoffer To Kalon, just as vintages 2007–2016 were, it's a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc.

Reaches out and grabs you from the first moment, creamy luscious edge to the brambled cassis and blackberry fruits, this was a low yield vintage and has clear concentration, with turmeric spice and dried herbs on the finish, well handled in a dry vintage. 85% new oak, native yeast fermentation, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

From a valley floor site beside To Kalon, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallée (76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc) boasts an incredibly sexy, full-bodied, thrillingly textured profile as well as to-die-for notes of blueberries, black cherries, dried herbs, and flowers. This powerful, blockbuster-styled beauty checks in near the top of the vintage, and while already drinking beautifully, it will keep for 15-20 years. I loved these latest releases from Luc Morlet and family, and they show a sensational mix of classic, balanced, even old-school, characters mixed with killer California fruit. As a whole, the 2014s show more elegance and complexity, with the 2015s possessing more power and richness. These are rockstar wines.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee is a massive, dark wine, with huge fruit and equally imposing tannins. This is an especially structured, forbidding 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon that is going to need time to settle down. Today, the 2014 is a brute.
