Tasting notes
The 2021 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Vineyard Cuvée Natalie is stellar. Rich and explosive, the 2021 is bursting with inky red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, game, tobacco and incense. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable. There's so much textural depth and textural richness here. My impression is that the best is yet to come.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Cuvée Natalie Silver Belt Vineyard has fragrant scents of red cherries, pomegranate and raspberries with nuances of forest floor, woodsmoke and charcuterie. The medium-bodied palate features alluringly crunchy, earth-laced fruit supported by velvety tannins, vibrant acidity to balance its density of fruit and a long, layered, spicy finish. This irresistible Pinot Noir will certainly age, but there's no reason to wait!
The deep ruby 2021 Pinot Noir Cuvee Natalie Silver Belt Vineyard is ripe and inviting, with a potpourri of spice, red cherry, wild herbs, tea leaf, and a hint of incense. Medium to full-bodied, it has good structure, with ripe tannins, good acidity, and a lot of stemmy spices as well as turned earth and beetroot. Drink 2025-2035. Located in the Russian River Valley, Kistler is led today by winemaker Jason Kesner, who continues the long tradition of working from a singular clone of Chardonnay with Burgundian lineage that Steve Kistler, now of Occidental Wines, began in the 1980s. The 2021s were all tasted at the winery with Jason this May. Across the board, the wines from this vintage carry a savory profile that’s less about its fruit character and more about texture and sense of place, expressing a haunting sense of power and range. These are wines that I sometimes find difficult to pin down into words, but they are truly worth experiencing for yourself.
About the producer

Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
