Offering up aromas of pear, white currants, spring blossom and fresh pastry, the 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay is medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with lively acids and a pretty core of perfumed fruit. Bottled before harvest, this will drink well young.

Highish site, very calcareous and a bit cooler so very good in a warmer vintage. 20% new oak. Bottled in August 2019. A touch of oak cedar and sweetness on the nose but it’s subtle. Rich, creamy and generous, broad and fills the mouth but fresh too. Straightforward, balanced, not terribly long but more spicy and leesy/oaky than the Bourgogne. (JH)
