Score 93/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2016

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve is powerful, intense and sinewy in its feel, with pretty savory, tobacco and spice notes that add aromatic nuance. Today, the Reserve is the least expressive of the 2012s, but that is probably a good thing for its ability to develop in bottle. I would give the 2012 Reserve another year or two, and then a good bit of air upon opening.

A powerful, deeply expressive wine, 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve captures the full personality of the vintage in its dark, sumptuous fruit. Mocha, plums, black cherries, smoke, licorice and cloves meld into the rich, inviting finish. With time in the glass the aromatics blossom beautifully and serve to expand a broad canvas of aromas and flavors. Sweet red cherries, raspberries, flowers and mint add the closing shades of nuance.

Super ripe red raspberries, cloves, mocha and licorice are some of the many notes that emerge from the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve. There is good depth and density in the glass, but the elements haven't fully come together just yet. The 2012 hasn't been bottled yet, so it is still very much in its infancy.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve exhibits classic crème de cassis, graphite and spice box notes as well as terrific purity, plenty of depth and ripeness, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. In the past, this cuvée has been highly successful as well as very ageworthy. The 2012 is another beauty. Juicy and filled with cassis fruit, it is still primary, but promises to keep for two decades or more.
